Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 03/14/2019

Receipts: 1,802 Last Week: 1,104 Year Ago: 0

Compared to last week: All feeder cattle were too lightly
tested either this sale or last to develop an accurate market
trend, however unevenly steady undertones were noticed on
steers and heifers. Demand for feeder calves was mostly light
to moderate for light to moderate offerings. Quality this week
was mostly plain to average. Demand for lightly fleshed cattle
suitable to run as yearlings was moderate to good while feedlot
ready cattle sold on mostly light demand. Flesh conditions
varied this week from light to moderate. Market activity was
mostly moderate today. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand.
Quality this week was very attractive and both packers and feeding
buyers both showed good to very good demand for all ages of
feeding cows. Packers were content to pick around the edges for
slaughter cows as they purchased mostly low dressing or
blemished cows for slaughter. Slaughter cows sold fully steady
with last week. Feeding cows sold steady to 3.00 higher, with
quality as the driving factor for higher prices. Yielding
conditions were mostly average this week and slightly better than
last week. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to develop an
accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed.
The feeder cattle offering was 51 percent steers and bulls,
49 percent heifers with 55 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Today
supply consisted of 46 percent feeder cattle, 8 percent slaughter
cows, near 0 percent slaughter bulls, 37 percent feeding cows and
bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers,
and pairs. ***Next sale is Thursday March 28th 2019.***
